World Energy Saving Day

October 21st has been declared the World Energy Saving Day. The energy sources we use in our daily life activities originate from processes that cause pollution to our environment and contribute to the extinction of many species around the world. For these reasons the world Energy Saving Day has the main goal of reflecting on our habits and what we can do for a better use of it. Believe it or not, there is a big connection or impact between our energy use and the environment, when people consume more power, they increase the amount of toxic fumes, released by power plants, which are destroying little by little many ecosystems. Even though there are many regulations to reduce chemical dumpig from power plants, the reality is that their toxic waste has not disappeared. Each year these energy plants discharge billions of tons of poisonous waste, that contain arsenic, mercury, etc.

Save Ecosystems and Animals

Nature provides the main sources of energy that move our world, it is important to know that we need these sources but we have to give them a rational use. Excessive energy consumption can harm animals and ecosystems; activities like mining, logging, oil spilling, etc., are associated to the destruction of habitats on land and in the ocean. Human-induced air pollution is one of the main causes that biodiversity is disappearing at ten thousand times the normal extinction rate.

                                     Tips to Save Energy

Nowadays in the digital era it is very complicated for people  to reduce their every day energy consumption, so applying good  and responsible energy actions become a real challenge in this century. It is important to know that there are not only bad news, there are many tips in order to do something positive for our envrionment and to save energy from our houses. These tips are the following:

  • Use bicycles instead of cars if you are going to nearby places.
  • Do not turn electrical objects on if you are not using them.
  • Use energy-saving bulbs, they last much longer and consume less energy.
  • Never leave lights on if your are not in the room.
  • Take advantange of natural light whenever you can, etc.

Remember, with small changes we can contribute to save our ecosystems on Earth. Therefore, this important day should not only serve as a reminder about the amount of energy consumed but it is also the opportunity to make people reflect on the importance of adopting vital daily habits that can make the difference.
